PURPOSE: To obtain a tooth stain-preventive composition that contains a compound having an active nitrogen-containing substituent, such as aminoguanidine orα-hydrazinohistidine, to prevent teeth from stain due to non-enzymatic browning of protein in an oral cavity. CONSTITUTION: This tooth stain-preventive composition contains a compound which can react with carbonyl groups of initial glycosylated products by first glycosylation of the target protein in an non-enzymatic browning reaction, preferably a compound having an active nitrogen-containing substituent, such as aminoguanidine,α-hydrazinohistidine, lysine, or a compound of formula I (R is formula II; R1 is H, or a 1-6C alkyl or hydroxyethyl; R2 is H, a 1-6C alkyl, or a 2-4C alkyl, or a 2-4C alkylene together with R1 or R2 ; R3 to R5 are each H, a 2-4C alkyl, or a 2-4C alkylene together with R3 and R4 ), simply or together with a known dental plaque preventive agent (e.g. chlorhexidine).
