The invention relates to an apparatus for separating the different constituents of a mixture of two or more materials in discrete particles by producing a relative sliding movement between the mixture and a surface on which the different constituents have different coefficients of sliding friction. The apparatus may comprise means 120 for spreading the mixture over a revolving disc 122 over which it slides, the different constituents being collected at different radial points. Application: improved method for the sorting of particulate materials according to frictional conditions. <IMAGE>
