PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound convertible to other chemicals such as polyether and glycol, in high yield, by reacting an organic hydroperoxide with an olefinic compound in the presence of a specific compound using a molybdenum compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting an organic hydroperoxide with a 4-16C olefinic compound in an inert solvent at 50-150 deg.C, preferably 70-110 deg.C in the presence of at least one kind of metal halide selected from alkali metal and alkaline-earth metal halides (especially preferably sodium chloride) using a molybdenum compound as a catalyst. The organic hydroperoxide used as an epoxidization agent is e.g., ethylbenzene hydroperoxide. The amount of the metal halide in the reaction liquid is about >=0.0001wt.%. |
