A mechanism for preventing a car door from re-opening after it is slammed comprises a contactor 11 placed between the release means e.g. a push button and the latch means, the contator comprising a first part 14 pivoted at 15 on a second part 12 pivotally mounted on the back plate 10. A spring 16 urges the contactor to a fastening position in which abutments constituted by a portion 19 and a flange 20 on the parts 12, 14 respectively engage and a projection 23 on the part 14 engages a stop 24 on the back plate. When the push button is operated the part 14 pivots about 15 so that the projection 23 is moved away from the stop 24 and a portion 25 of the part 14 is brought into engagement with a lug 21 on the part 12. The contactor as a whole is then moved about 13 causing a roller 26 carried by the part 12 to engage a cam plate 27 which turns a cam 28 to release the latch means. If the door is slammed, however; the contactor is prevented from moving into the release position by the engagement of the projection 23 with the stop 24, this movement being further prevented by the engagement of a projection 35 on the part 12 with a locking slide 31 movable by means of a key or sill control. A remote control lever 37 whereby the latch means may be released from inside the vehicle and a safety means rendering the lever 37 inoperative are also provided.</p> |
