Procedure for preparing the new sweetening compound 1'-N- [N'-2-amino-6-oxa-cis-hydrindanyl(4- cyanophenylimino)methyl]-5-aminomethyltetrazole. It involves reacting N-2-(6-oxa-cis-hydrindanyl)-N'-4- cyanophenyl-S-methylisothiourea with 5- aminomethyltetrazole. Said 5-aminomethyltetrazole can also be reacted with the isomer of said N-2-(6-oxa-cis- hydrindanyl)-N'-4-cyanophenyl-S-methylisothiourea to produce the isomer of 1'-N-[N'-2-amino-6-oxa-cis- hydrindanyl(4-cyanophenylimino)methyl]-5- aminomethyltetrazole which has a potency equivalent to approximately 20,000 times the sweetness of sucrose. The compound obtained can be used in a wide variety of foods.
