PURPOSE:To protect an integrated circuit contained in an IC card by providing a finger insertion space having a depth for containing a substantially whole longitudinal IC card length in a mounting port and capable of holding the card at both longitudinal ends of the inlet of the mounting port. CONSTITUTION:A reader/writer 1 for an IC card has a mounting port 3 for containing a substantially whole longitudinal length of the IC card 2. The port 3 guides the card 2 until the outer connection terminal 2a of the card 2 is connected to an inner connection terminal 4 in the reader/writer 1. The rear end 2a of the card 2 becomes substantially in the same plane as that of the end of the port 3 in a state that the terminal 2a of the card 2 is connected to the terminal 4. Finger insertion spaces 5 capable of holding both ends 2c of the card 2 are formed at both side ends 2c of the card 2, and a sensor 8 for detecting the presence or absence of a finger is provided at least one of the spaces 5. |
