Compounds of the formula (R-COO)n-OR1, in which R1 is optionally substituted alkyl, or alkylphenyl, n is 1, 2 or 3, X is a carbohydrate moiety, and R is optionally substituted alkyl, have very good effects as additives for detergents. These compounds can be prepared by esterifying glycosides using specific enzymes.
