PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular weight polyarylene sulfide, excellent in moldability without coloring by reacting an alkaline metal (hydro)sulfide with a dihalogen aromatic compound and functional group-containing aromatic compound in a specific proportion in a polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:(B) One or more of an alkaline metal sulfide (preferably sodium sulfide) and alkaline metal hydrosulfide (preferably sodium hydrosulfide), (C) a dihalogen aromatic compound (preferably p-dichlorobenzene) and (D) an aromatic compound (preferably dichloroaniline, etc.) having >=3 functional groups are mixed and reacted with (A) a polar solvent (preferably N-methylpyrrolidone) at 0.035-1.300, preferably 1.04-1.15 ratio of the components (C/B) and 0.003-0.05, preferably 0.004-0.02 ratio of the components (D/C) to stably afford a polyarylene sulfide. The amounts of the component (A) used is 0.1-10 times based on the weight of the whole components other than the component (A). |
