PURPOSE:To provide a temperature-sensitive microsphere containing a biodegradable polymer and a liquid crystal-forming compound having a gel-liquid crystal transition temperature falling within a specific range, effective in performing thermotherapy in a state of obliterated neovessel of cancer and capable of integrating a thermotherapy and a chemical embolic therapy. CONSTITUTION:The objective microsphere contains (A) a liquid crystal-forming compound having a gel-liquid crystal transition temperature of 35-45 deg.C (e.g., polyoxyethylene glyceryl monostearyl ether or polyoxyethylene 2-hexyldecyl ether) and (B) a biodegradably polymer [e.g., polyactic acid or poly(beta- hydroxybutyric acid)]. When the polymer has a molecular weight of 1,000-1,000,000, preferably 1,000-100,000, the microspheres forming the embolus in the embolic therapy can be easily decomposed and absorbed to effeciently eliminate the embolic state of the blood vessel. |
