PURPOSE:To obtain the title ceramics having excellent strength and toughness to which fiber is compounded by subjecting mixed slurry of ceramic fine powder and heat-resistant inorganic short fiber to wet compacting, thereafter impregnating a ceramic precursory soln. thereto and subjecting it to drying and calcining. CONSTITUTION:Mixed powder consisting essentially of ceramic fine powder such as SiC having preferably <=2mu average grain size and heat-resistant inorganic short fiber such as SiC whiskers having preferably about <=10mm average length and 10 to 10000 average aspect ratio is subjected to wet compacting into a product compact. Ceramic precursory soln. such as the hexane soln. of polycarbosilane is then impregnated into the product compact, which is thereafter dried into a precompact; after that, the precompact is calcined. |
