A circuit breaker mechanism (10) has an armature component (16) that is slidably displaceable between latched and tripping positions. The armature (16) is connected to a moving contact carrier (14) that is pivotally connected to an operating handle (12) that is also pivotal. The armature is connected to the carrier by a spring (18). The armature has a latching formation which engages a projection (32). When tripped, the armature is slightly pivoted to clear the projection.
