PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of an active matrix system display and to miniaturize it by providing a display element having horizontally arranged picture elements whose number is larger than the number of signal lines, and a display element having vertically arranged picture elements whose number is smaller than the number of scanning lines. CONSTITUTION:Since the number of the signals lines is smaller than the number of the horizontal picture elements, connecting lines of the signal lines with an external driving circuit are decreased and the number of signal line driving ICs which constitute the external driving circuit is decreased. On the other hand, the number of scanning lines is larger than the number of the vertical picture elements, a scanning line driving circuit is built in a display panel, the number of the connecting lines of the external driving circuit with the scanning line driving circuit in the display panel is made smaller than the number of the vertical picture elements and the number of scanning line driving ICs which constitute the external riving circuit is decreased. Thus, the number of the connecting lines of the display panel with the external driving circuit is decreased, the number of external driving ICs is decreased, therefore, the cost can be reduced and a display module can be miniaturized. |
