Process in which a steel core is poured into a cooled continuous ingot mould. After having left the ingot mould and until welding of the inner walls of the shell of the already solidified cord, the steel cord which has not yet totally solidified is compressed, the thickness of the shell of the cord being reduced with a degree of deformation above 40%. <IMAGE>
