PURPOSE:To accurately detect toner exhaustion by detecting toner residual in a toner accumulating part based on a count value of the number of dots exposed on the surface of a photosensitive body stored in a memory means. CONSTITUTION:The number of dots exposed on the surface of the photosensitive body is counted by a counting means 26, and the count value is stored in the memory means 25. The count value of dots in the memory means 25 and required toner consumption in order to compose one dot are integrated in a computing means 22 to calculate toner consumption. Toner residual and toner exhaustion in the toner accumulation part are detected based on this computing part. Therefore, toner exhaustion can be accurately detected with a simple constitution.
