PURPOSE:To restrain breaking position of solidified shell in a cast billet in small range and to execute stable casting having good surface quality in the cast billet by embedding a heat resistant separating member on inner circumferential face in a mold at center part of the mold corresponding to pouring hole position of molten metal. CONSTITUTION:In the horizontal continuous casting mold, the molten metal 6 is separated to right and left directions at the center part of the vibrating mold 2 horizontally arranged and the solidified cast billets 2 are drawn to the reverse directions from both end parts of the vibrating mold 2. On the inner circumferential face in the mold 2 at the center part of the mold 2 corresponding to the pouring hole 5 position of the molten metal 6, for example a refractory as the separating member 4 having heat resistance is embedded. As the refractory of the separating member 4 has smaller thermal conductivity compared with that of the copper-made mold 2, the molten steel surface contacting with the refractory is made to slow cooling compared with the molten steel surface contacting with the cooled mold 2 and the development of the solidified shell is restrained. Therefore, the solidified shell in the cast billet is stably broken in this slow cooling zone, and the displacement of the breaking position of the solidified shell in the cast billet in the mold 2 can be restrained in the small range. |
