PURPOSE:To make highly reliable life judgment of a battery possible by disposing an access switch or an eddy current type displacement sensor on the outside of a battery case which switch is activated when the distance between the electrode plate becomes a specified value or which sensor outputs a voltage in proportion to the distance between the electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:An electrode cluster comprising positive electrode plates 1, negative electrode plates, and separators is disposed in a battery case 2. A detector 3 such as an access switch to be activated when the distance between the electrode plate becomes a specified value or an eddy current type displacement sensor which outputs a voltage in proportion to the distance between the electrode plate is disposed on the outer side of the battery case. The positive electrode plate 1 in the course of use elongates to assume the shape 1' and shortens the distance between the detector 3 disposed on the outer side of the battery case. The detector 3 is activated or outputs a specified voltage when the distance becomes about the thickness of the battery case, or the distance between the inner wall and the positive plate becomes zero mm. This makes the judgment of the life of a sealed type lead-acid battery possible. |
