PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition effective in restricting the excessive absorption or accumulation of nucleic acid base in the body even by taking nucleic acid base without restriction by using a lower thioalkanoic acid or its salt as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains a compound of formula (R<1> is H or lower alkyl; R<2> is (amino-substituted) lower alkylene) or its salt (preferably L-cysteine or L-methionine) as an active component and is effective in suppressing the absorption of a nucleic acid base (e.g., adenine, guanine, xanthine, thymine or uracil) when administered to the body. It is administered at a rate of 30-150mg/kg per day in the form of a pharmaceutical preparation containing 1-70wt.% of the compound of formula or containing 0.01-1g of the compound in one tablet or the compound is added to a food in an amount to take 500-2,000mg of the compound per meal. |
