The automatic disc changer unit is built into the drive system for digital compact discs. The unit has a main chassis (11) with a framework (12). The latter supports a disc magazine (100), disc drive (150), disc selector (200), loading mechanisms (300,400), disc support unit (500), playing mechanism (580), intermediate disc store (600) and unloading mechanism (700). The disc magazine can move axially in a direction prallel to the drive to align the selected disc with the loading mechanism (300). The selector moves the disc into the intermediate position and is then transferred onto the drive unit.
