PRODUCT AND METHOD FOR INCREASING ENZYME ADSORPTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a DEAE-cellulose composite that adsorbs or bonds charged macromolecules by treating a granular composite with an aq. medium at a high temp. for a time sufficient to increase the adsorption or bonding capacity of the composite. CONSTITUTION: Cellulose is agglomerated with a hydrophobic polymer to form a granular composite, this cellulose is converted into a deriv. with a deriv. forming agent and ion exchange characteristics are imparted. The resultant composite is treated with an aq. medium at >=60 deg.C for a time sufficient to increase the macromolecule adsorption capacity of the composite by >=30%. The adsorption or bonding capacity of the granular DEAE-cellulose composite for charged macromolecules is increased and an ion exchange material having a high load capacity is obtd.
