PURPOSE: To prevent asynchronous engagement of clutches by controlling the maximum-resilient engagement force of a spring means made of a carbon/carbon composite material that forms one friction surface for producing blocking torque to a specified value per unit area. CONSTITUTION: A blocker-clutch assembly 10 dislocates an engagement clutch 14 to the left by an actuation means, and during asynchronous engagement of both engagement clutches 14 and 12, produces blocking torque by a first and second friction surfaces 64 and 62 (76c) of a blocker means 16 and compresses a spring means 28 to thereby mesh teeth 34 with 42 of clutches 14 and 12. The friction surface 76c of a friction material 76 set on a relative rotor 40 is made of a carbon/carbon composite material having a density in a range of 0.3 to 1.3 g/cc by chemical vapor deposition, and the maximum- resilient engagement force of the spring means 28 is controlled in a range of 10 to 20 kg/cm<2> . This constitution affords appropriate initial engagement of the engagement clutches 12 and 14 to prevent asynchronous engagement and improve the abrasion resistance of the friction surfaces. |
