Spherical-head milling cutter

The spherical-head milling cutter contains an elongated body, a centre insert and cutting inserts which are fastened to the front end of the body. The centre insert and each of the cutting inserts are adjacent to one another, and in fact in such a way that the centre insert partly lies on the axis of rotation of the body. The centre insert, which is made of carbide, has cutting edges which pass through the axis of rotation. Each of the cutting inserts, which consist of an especially hard, sintered compact, has a cutting edge which is aligned with at least one cutting edge of the centre insert. The cutting edges of the cutting insert and of the centre insert interact in order to draw a hemispherical orbital path during a rotation.
