The device has separating elements (1) attached at regular distances to a circulating endless V-belt (21), which elements single out the note to be counted at the counting point (34) and hold it temporarily in the counting position. The notes stacked into a packet rest upright on edge on a packet holder (35 to 38) which is displaceable transversely to the direction of movement of the separating elements (1). The separating elements (1) have a suction area (2) which sucks in an upper edge strip of the note to be counted during the straight-line passage past the counting point (34) and is constructed to be curved in such a manner that the edge strip is subjected to a torsional twist whilst lifting away from the remaining packet. Due to the restoring spring force against torsional deformation which is a characteristic of the notes, separating errors are reliably prevented in this manner. In the sucked-in counting position, the singled-out note is scanned by an optical counting device and counted and subsequently passes behind the next separating element (1) behind which it becomes engaged. …<IMAGE>… |
