A covering layer is applied to an article of polyester by causing the polyester to assume the shape of the item under high pressure and temp in a mould, in the presence of the covering material. Melamine formaldehyde resin is used as the covering material. It can be applied as coating to a support, typically of non-woven polyester, the latter of the same composition as that used for the greater part of the article.
