PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity and durability and to reduce residual potential by incorporating a specified asymmetric squarium compound in a photosensitive layer. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate contains at least one of the asymmetric squarium compounds represented by formula I in which one of Ar1 and Ar2 is a group of formula II and the other is selected from the group of formulae III, IV, and V; each of R0-R2 is H, halogen, or the like; each of R3-R6 is H, alkyl, or the like; each of R10 and R11 is 1-20 C alkyl or phenyl; R12 is H, OH, or the like; and R13 is H, 1-6 C alkyl, or the like. It is preferred to laminate a carrier generating layer containing the compound of formula I as a carrier generating material and a carrier transfer layer containing a carrier transfer material to form the photosensitive layer. |
