A pot-like container (1) with a removable lid (2), in particular for use in the household sector as a freshness-maintaining, freezing or storage container, is to be designed using simple means in such a way that adaptation of the container volume to different filling quantities is made possible. For this purpose, provision is made to design the distance between the container bottom (8) and the closing lid surface (9) to be variable, specifically by an amount which is far greater than the overall lid height. For this purpose, the container (1) is provided in its upper edge region with a chalice-like widening (14) with an internal thread (15), and the lid (9) is fitted with a corresponding external thread (4). The lid (2) can thus be screwed to a greater or lesser depth into the chalice-like widening (14) and the usable volume of the container (1) can be varied in this manner. <IMAGE>
