PURPOSE:To obtain a porous carbon substance modified with ultrafine granular metal by subjecting a mixture of ultrafine granular metal oxide and an organic substance dry distillation under heating, carbonizing the reaction substance and reducing the metal oxide to a metal. CONSTITUTION:An ultrafine granular metal oxide having <=1mum, preferably <=300Angstrom average particle diameter is blended with an organic substance. In the blending, for example, an oxide of an alkaline earth metal such as Ca, Mg or Ba and various kinds of metals such as Ag, Cu or Zn may be cited as the metal oxide. On the other hand, any organic substance such as phenolic resin or epoxy resin to produce a porous carbon substance by dry distillation under heating may be cited as the organic substance. The mixture is heated generally at 800-1,000 deg.C, thermally decomposed to produce a reducing gas such as H2 or CO depending upon components of the organic substance and the ultrafine granular metal oxide is reduced with the reducing gas to give a porous carbon substance containing the aimed ultrafine granular metal. |
