PURPOSE:To simultaneously and efficiently obtain a dicarboxylic acid and a formylcarboxylic acid from an unsaturated carboxylic acid, carbon monoxide, hydrogen and water by reacting the raw materials in the presence of cobalt catalyst by one-stage reaction. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated carboxylic acid is reacted with carbon monoxide, hydrogen and water in the presence of a cobalt catalyst which contains preferably a cobalt carbonyl compound as a cobalt component and further preferably an organic phosphors compound containing one or more trivalent phosphorus atoms in the molecule or a pyridine as a promoter preferably at 50-250 deg.C under 10-300kg/cm<2>G for 0.1-50 hours to give a dicarboxylic acid and a formylcarboxylic acid useful as raw materials for various kinds of chemical products from the above-mentioned raw materials by one-stage reaction in high yield and simultaneously. The ratio of the dicarboxylic acid and the formylcarboxylic acid formed can be controlled by changing feed ratio of hydrogen and water of the raw materials. |
