METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE BEGIN AND END POINTS OF ISOLATED WORDS IN A SPEECH SIGNAL

To determine the beginning and end point of a word signal within a speech signal from words spoken in isolation, three adjacent windows for the last stored digital values which have previously arrived are determined with each new digital value, the centre window of which is to contain the actual word signal. The length of this centre window is varied between a minimum and a maximum value for each digital value and from the energy contained therein, a threshold value is in each case subtracted which is determined from the two adjacent windows. In this manner, the method according to the invention in each case takes into consideration the complete speech signal instead of individual isolated regions, as a result of which the end point can be determined more reliably. ……
