PURPOSE:To reduce the change of the photographic characteristic of the title material at the time of processing it continuously by developing the photosensitive material with a developer which does not contain substantially benzylalcohol, in the presence of a compd. shown by a prescribed formula, and by reducing the replenishing amount of the developer to a prescribed amount. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive material having at least one layer of emulsions which have a high silver chloride content and are composed of >=80mol.% of silver chloride, is developed with the developer which does not contain substantially benzyl alcohol, in the presence of the compd. shown by the formula Z-S-M, controlling the replenishing amount of the color developer to 20-120ml per 1m<2> of the photosensitive material. In the formula, M is hydrogen atom, a cation or -S-Z group, Z is a heterocyclic ring residual group contg. one or more of nitrogen atoms. Thus, the changes of the photographic characteristic, especially, the min. and the max. optical densities and the sensitivity of the photosensitive material at the time of processing it continuously are lessened, without deteriorating the rapidity of processing, even in the case of reducing the replenishing amount of the color developer. |
