NEW MATERIAL:An O-substituted 1,4-naphthohydroquinone derivative expressed by the formula (RA is R1-OH, R1-OA, R1-X or glycidyl; RB is R2-OB, R2-X2 or 1-10C alkyl; R1 and R2 are 1-6C alkylene; A and B are phenyl, benzyl, naphthyl or 1-12C alkyl; X1 and X2 are halogen). EXAMPLE:1-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-4-ethoxynapthalene. USE:Useful as a sensitizer for heat sensitive paper, excellent in image density, etc., and good in performances with great industrial effects and hardly any sublimableness. PREPARATION:1,4-Napthoquinine is hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst or reduced with a reducing agent, such as sodium dithionite, and the resultant 1,4-naphthohydroquinone is subjected to a method for condensation through dehydration with an alcohol or phenol corresponding to R4 or R5 in the presence of, e.g., an etherification catalyst, to afford the compound expressed by the formula. |
