The method according to the invention proceeds from exposing the material mixtures to the action of a refrigerant at the location of their deposition by means of hollow lances which can be loaded with refrigerant and are introduced into the landfill and then removing the frozen material mixture from the landfill. In order to be able to carry out the removal in the required short time, the material mixture is subjected, after freezing, to an explosive shock, the hollow lances being utilised to accommodate elongated charges.
