In a method for electrostatic surface discharge and de-dusting of different surfaces made of various materials, two ion flows containing both positive and negative ions are generated by means of two ionising bars arranged parallel in an ionising space, and these flows are carried along by means of an air jet flowing between them which is conducted at an inclination angle onto the surface of a workpiece to be de-dusted, the air with the dust particles contained therein being sucked off after the electrostatic surface discharge. The device for implementing this method has, in the ionising space (2), an upper surface which bears two parallel ionising bars (3, 4) and flat jet nozzles (5) arranged in between, the surface being inclined, in relation to a horizontal surface, in the direction of an adjacent sucking-off duct (7) in order to conduct, at an angle of inclination, the air flow emerging from the flat jet nozzle (5) towards the surface of a workpiece to be de-dusted or to be cleaned. <IMAGE>
