Compositions of oligomers of polythiopyridine type with halogenated ends comprising at least one oligomer denoted by the general formula: <IMAGE> in which the valences of the pyridine rings are in 2,4, 2,6 or 3,5 positions, n is an integer from 2 to 20 and X is a halogen atom. They generally have a number-average molecular mass of 200 to 10,000. They can be prepared by the reaction of sodium sulphide with a dihalopyridine, for example in a molar ratio of approximately 1.05 to 1.5. They can be employed for the manufacture of thermally stable resins.
