PURPOSE:To compress and extend video data at high speeds with a simple circuit configuration by compressing the video data by abandoning those over or below a certain luminance value and extending the data by compensating the abandoned part with a certain fixed luminance value. CONSTITUTION:A comparing means 2 compares a video digital signal A with a threshold value B from a 1st storing means 3 and, when a comparison condition is satisfied by them, activates its output D. The output D is sent to a 2nd storing means 4 where the output D is stored as map data E and a 3rd storing means 5 where compressing data are stored. The input signals A are stored in the storing means 5 as compressed data F only when the output D is active. Then the compressed data F stored in the storing means 5 are sent to a switching means 6. The switching means 6 performs switching against the compressed data F and a default value G from a 4th storing means 7 based on the map data E from the storing means 4 and outputs as video digital extended output signals H to an output terminal 8. |
