PURPOSE: To treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis by administering a specific compound having an immunomodulatory action and an antiinflammatory action or its salt in an amount effective for immunosuppression into a mammalian except man. CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R is a group of formula II [R<1> is CH3 CH2 (CH3 )CH, a 5-12C alkyl, etc.; R<3> is H, a 1-3C alkoxy, etc.; R<4> is CO2 H, etc.; R<5> to R<8> are each H, F, Cl, etc.] or its salt is administered into a mammalian except man in an amount effective for immunosuppression.
