Steam iron

A steam iron has an iron sole with steam-outlet orifices in the region of the iron tip, a cowl connected sealingly to the sole and having a connection for a steam generator, a tubular heating body connected heat-conductively to the iron sole and a temperature sensor, there being arranged in the upper region of the cowl a downwardly open steam dome, under which opens out at least one steam conduit connected sealingly to the steam-outlet orifices. In order to reduce the weight of such an iron and at the same time obtain an abrasion-resistant iron sole which does not impair the surface structure of the ironing material, provision is made for the iron sole to consist of special sheet steel of small wall thickness and to be coated on its inside with a metal layer of high thermal conductivity and for the tubular heating body to be soldered onto the latter in loops, part of which is guided between the steam-outlet orifices.
