The present invention relates to an improved elongate fixing element for assembling any type of component. This element, which is in the form of a screw, includes a head 1 and a shank 2 which is provided with a knurling 3 capable of engaging with the internal periphery of a bore made in a component to be assembled, whereas a groove 5 is made in the bearing face 4 of the head 1 substantially tangentially to the external peripheral surface 2a of the shank 2 in order to accommodate the chips (swarf) torn out from the knurling 3 during assembly.
