PURPOSE:To easily and certainly adapt a fixing means such as welding, by moving a pair of fold part forming members in mutually reverse direction to forcibly widening the same toward the non-press part of a cylindrical base material and forming a folded part to the flat plate in the space at the center part of the base material. CONSTITUTION:The ram 181 of a press apparatus 18 is slightly raised and a pair of fold part forming member 16, 16 are pulled off from a center space 15. The press apparatus 18 is again driven to press a cylindrical base material 11 by the ram 181 to closely adhere the opposed surface 121, 121 of the flat plate 12 in the center space 15. In this state, a means such as soldering or laser welding is applied to fix said surfaces. Further, predetermined treatment for supporting a catalyst is applied to form an objective metal honeycomb catalyst carrier 10. Since this catalyst carrier has no gap at the center part thereof, the deterioration purifying capacity due to the leakage of exhaust gas from said part is prevented. |
