A press for crimping connectors to the ends of wires can accept two different apparatuses 20 suitable for crimping connectors fed in two different directions at right angles to each other and includes a common motor-driven flywheel 40 and driving crank 52. The axis A-A of the press and flywheel (in plan, Fig. 2, not shown) is inclined at 45 degrees to the edge 24 of a support on which the press is mounted. Connectors 2 joined end to end are fed from a spool 60 to a working area 36 where they are crimped to the ends C of wires W. By rotating the arm 64 supporting the spool to the position indicated in Fig. 3 (not shown) connectors 10 can be fed in ladder form on a supporting strip 15. In each case the connectors are sheared from each other, or from the supporting strip, after crimping. The crank 52 supports blocks 58 and 59 and a press ram 54, the ram being driven from the flywheel by a pedal actuated one revolution clutch 42. |
