PURPOSE: To adjust the tension of a thread by a very moderate method by changing the curvature of a rotary parabolic surface covered with thin metal pieces by the movement of a movable ring to increase a range for adjusting the releasing tension of the thread. CONSTITUTION: The thin metal pieces 32 of a braking means 30 for braking a thread F delivered from the thread SF wound on a fixed drum 14 several times are arranged along the surface of a rotary parabolic surface 33. The curvature of the rotary parabolic surface is changed by the movement of a movable ring 37 in the axial direction of the rotary parabolic surface 33, thereby adjusting the contact pressure of the thin metal pieces with the thread F. The movable ring 37 is engaged with the other ends of the thin metal pieces 32 whose one ends are fixed to a support ring 34.
