PURPOSE:To improve hardness, strength, toughness and heat resistance by incorporating a specified metal boride, a specified carbide such as SiC, Al2O3 and ceramic whiskers. CONSTITUTION:TiB2 or ZrB2 of 0.5-5mum particle size is mixed with 10-70vol.% SiC, WC, TiC, B4C or ZrC of 0.1-7mum particle size and 1-5wt.% Al2O3 in an org. dispersion medium to obtain a mixture (a). Ceramic whiskers of 0.1-0.5mum thickness, 5-20mum length and >=20 aspect ratio, e.g., SiC whiskers are dispersed in an org. dispersion medium by 5-20vol.% to obtain a mixture (b). The mixture (a) is mixed with the mixture (b), molded under 1-10t/cm<2> pressure, heated at about 5-10 deg.C/min heating rate in vacuum or in an inert atmosphere and sintered at 1,800-2,200 deg.C for 1-2hr. |
