A reagent for detecting gene products characteristic of humans tending to develop insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) consists of or contains antibodies directed specifically against one of the positions 13, 26, 45 or 57 in the HLA-DQw7 or HLA-DQw8 allele.
