A portable programmable tester capable of testing automatically a large number of different types of electronic units is disclosed. The operation of the tester is governed by a microprocessor control subsystem in conjunction with a self-contained microcomputer (2). A programmable stimulus subsystem (4, 5, 6) provides desired stimuli to a unit under test and a programmable response measuring subsystem (7, 8) measures specified output parameters of the unit under test. A programmable switching subsystem (9, 10, 11) selectively connects the unit under test to the stimulus and response measuring subsystems via an interface device adapted to connect the unit under test to the tester. A test program designed to test the operating characteristics of a particular unit under test is non-volatilely stored in the interface device and is loaded into the microcomputer under control of the microprocessor. Memory means (1) associated with the microcomputer are used to store non-volatilely an interpreter program for interpreting the test program. An alphanumeric display (12) and associated keyboard (13) allow the user to communicate interactively with the tester. |
