Improved polarization film comprises a disazo dye adsorbed or orientated on a high polymer film. The disazo dye is represented by general formula (I) where Me is a transition metal such as Cu, Zn or Fe; R is a 1- or 2-naphthol residue bound to the azo group at a position adjacent to the hydroxy group and forming a complex bond with the transition metal. It may be substituted at a position not adjacent to the azo group by a sulpho group, sulphonamido, amino, acylamino, arylamino or hydroxy; X and Y are independently H, a 1-4C alkyl group, an acylamino group, a halogen or a nitro group; Z is H, a 1-4C alkyl or a lower alkoxy; The disazo dye contains 1-3 sulpho groups. This polarization film may also contain an organic direct-dyeing dye having an absorption in a specified spectral region and a neutral colour. The high molecular film is made of polyvinyl alcohol or its derivs. |
