A process for the production of linear low density polyethylene co-polymers in a gas phase reactor is carried out under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure and includes the steps of consecutively dimerizing a portion of the ethylene in the presence of a stated dimerization catalyst to produce 1-butene, and co-polymerizing ethylene and the 1-butene formed in situ in the presence of a stated polymerization catalyst and a suitable co-catalyst to produce polyethylene. The process requires only ethylene and hydrogen as reactants and does not require 1-butene as a raw material. |
