Electric battery includes a Ti electrode comprising a conductive substrate with a coating of a conductive Pt gp. metal oxide. The electrolyte contains a reactant to produce ions and current flow, which is pref. a halogen, esp. Br2. The second electrode is pref. uncoated or Ag-coated Ti. The first electrode is pref. coated with a mixed oxide of a film-forming metal, Pt gp. metal, Pt gp. metal and other modifying metal(s), a typical coating contg. TiO2, RuO2, SnO and CoO. Battery may be any type of primary or secondary electric storage battery, e.g. ZnCl2, Li and Li-S batteries, alkaline batteries, Pb acid batteries, molten salt batteries, etc. Pref. battery is a bromide electrolyte battery. Ti oxide- coated electrodes are lightweight, long-lasting and have a breakdown voltage >2V.
|
