摘要 PURPOSE:To separate light rays in which light rays of TE and TM modes exist in a mixed state into the TE and TM mode light rays by constituting the title beam splitter with a semiconductor optical waveguide having a two-dimensional light enclosure. CONSTITUTION:A 1st interference type light intensity modulator (between E and F) provided to one side optical waveguide on the output side of a 1st directional coupler (between B and C and B and D) constituted of a semiconductor linear optical waveguide having two-dimensional enclosure is connected so that the modulator can have the same directivity as the 1st directional coupler has and a 2nd interference type light intensity modulator (between H and I) provided to the other side optical waveguide is connected at 45 deg. against the 1st directional coupler. Facing electrodes 1 to 3 are respectively provided to the 1st directional coupler (between B and C and B and D) in the direction (100) around the optical waveguide, 1st interference type light intensity modulator (between E and F) around the optical waveguide, and 2nd interference type light intensity modulator (between H and I) in the direction perpendicular to the facing electrodes provided to the 1st interference type light intensity modulator. Therefore, the TE and TM mode light rays can be separated and respectively emitted from different optical waveguides.
