PURPOSE: To obtain an acceleration sensor in the safety system for automobile having a slidable sensor mass which does not respond to acceleration at the time of normal traveling but responds only to acceleration which may cause a risk or accident. CONSTITUTION: Masses 1, 13 of an acceleration sensor are coupled through a spring 15 and the mass 1 is coupled through a spring 8 with the members 4, 7 of an automobile. An acceleration acting on the automobile is transmitted through the spring 8 to the sensor mass 13. The spring 15 imparts a force for moving the mass 1 only after the mass 13 is applied wit a force and moved. Consequently, the motion of the mass 1 is transmitted with a lag to the deenergizing unit for a risk avoiding lock. When the spring/mass system is designed appropriately, an acceleration sensor insensitive to nonhazardous acceleration being applied during normal traveling or at the time of passing over a hole in the road and actuating a safety system in response to an acceleration sustaining for at least 2-5mS can be obtained. |
