PURPOSE:To enhance remarkably transfer reproduction properties in the case of thermal transfer recording, particularly, high-resolution recording by providing a three-layer structure consisting of a heat-resistant base, a coloring material layer and a transfer layer. CONSTITUTION:An indk medium 22 comprises a heat-resistant base 23, a coloring material layer 24 and a transfer layer 25. The coloring material layer 24 is desirably provided by applying liquid-containing microcapsules, whereas the transfer layer 25 is desirably provided by applying a porous resin. When thermal printing on a transfer recording paper 26 is conducted by using the ink medium 22 on a thermal head 21, the microcapsules in the coloring material layer 24 at picture element parts are activated through thermal changes in properties and melting, and the melted material is caused to permeate into the transfer layer 25 softened by heat, under a synergistic effect with a pressure exerted by the head 21. Thereafter, the ink medium is released from the recording paper, whereby the picture element parts are transferred onto the recording paper 26. |
