Electrode laser catheter

Cardiac catheter in the form of a tube which is provided with two electrodes in the vicinity of its distal end as a probe for locating pathological, e.g. arrhythmogenic, areas, an axially displaceable light guide whose tip can be used as a radiation source for the areas being arranged in the lumen of the tube. Such cardiac catheters are to be developed further such that repositioning of the cardiac catheter is unnecessary after locating a source of arrhythmogenic disturbance for application of the laser light. This is achieved in that - the tube 2 is provided in the region of its distal end with at least two slots 12 essentially extending in the longitudinal direction, - the two electrodes 14, 16 are arranged at the front ends of two elongate tubular sections 25, 26 formed by the slots, and the lumen 4 of the tube 2 preferably tapers conically from the inner end of the slotted region in the direction of the distal end, the light guide 6, 8 being axially advancable for spreading of this conical constriction 22 and hence of the elongate tubular sections 25, 26. <IMAGE>
